Just looking at my roster and trying to decide if I want to cut some guys during tax free week is making for some interesting strategy.
Lots of options and ramifications now that the 25% cap hit is in effect most of the off season. I really like the rules changes and reordering of the off season.
Hopefully it plays out as well as I think it will in terms of flow for the entire league.

I just have to send a thank you out to Steve for posting so much useful information about the off-season stuff on the message board. It must have been pretty time consuming, but it sure makes trying to figure out my off-season strategy a lot easier! Nice work!

3.2 April 1st - 7th: Tax Free Week and Trading Opens
a. Teams may cut any player without incurring a cap hit, limits apply. Teams may cut more than two players this week and the two highest salaried players will automatically be considered the exempt player or players. b. Any player waived outside this period results in at least a 25% hit for the remainder of their contract. c. Teams are limited to two tax free waivers. d. Free waivers do not carry over to subsequent years if unused.
Example: Player A currently making $75 with 3 years remaining on their contract, if waived, would cost that team $18 for 3 years. Eighteen the first year, eighteen the second year and eighteen the third year. Players do not earn their 10% raise in this case.
3.3 April 1st - 7th: Contract Extensions a. Vested NFL players, in the last year of their RADL contract as of March 1st, may be signed to contract extensions by their current RADL team. b. The premium for this is a 25% increase over their current cap figure. c. The minimum term of an extension is 4 years but can be up to 6 years. d. The extension voids the final year of the current contract and the clock starts on the new contract with the associated cap increase. e. Any player not extended simply plays out their final year of their contract and becomes an unrestricted free agent the following March 1st. Unless they are franchise tagged.
3.4 April 1st - 7th: Franchise Tags a. Vested veterans on RADL rosters with an expired contract may be franchised now. b. Teams are limited to 1 franchise player per year. (If we add IDP perhaps we'll add a defensive Franchise Tag) c. Franchise contracts are always 1 year at 50% increase to the player's current contract amount. d. Owners simply announce to the commissioner, they wish to franchise a player. The league confirms the player is eligible and applies and announces the tag. e. Players may be franchised in consecutive years, no limit. Franchise bump of 50% applies each year.
