I’m always learning new things being a fantasy commissioner but more often I’m being reminded of things I’ve learned in the past. Things you tend to forget over time when things run smoothly for long stretches.
I like to try and involve everyone in the formation of the rules, at the very least give them a window to give ideas. That way if they don’t like something we implement I can call to their attention they offered little or no input when given the chance.
The other side of that is people inputing too many ideas and thoughts. Not that they aren’t good or legit ideas, it’s that, and this is so cliche, too many cooks spoil the broth. So many ideas and agendas leads to paralysis of the process.
I’ve been negligent in presenting a concise IDP vote because I’ve been waiting for it to be worked out in the discussion threads. That coupled with the fact this is one of those deals that won’t be fair to everyone. In regards to keeping a team defense or not, I understand that people acquired desired defenses. I also understand IDP and team defenses are not the normal industry standard for fantasy football. Though I still don’t see why.
The last issue for me is the desire to have it right from the get go. That won’t happen. We can spend all summer talking about IDP but we’ll still be tweaking it next off season. That’s normal but can and should be minimized.
I am going to present three options doing the BEST I CAN to be fair, logical, and a little creative. You can include a little argument for your option or against an option but I’m not looking for additions to what I lay out. We can add and subtract next year if needed.
The way I look at it, worst case scenario, if voted in and IDP sucks and everyone hates it, we erase it all, bring back team d, and blind bid on them May 1st 2012 and all is restored to the galaxy.
I’ve reread the IDP thread so if I leave out something you wanted it was by choice.
Columbo voice: “Ahhhh just one more thing...”
If you don’t vote I’m not accepting your blind bids for this May 1st.
Option 1.
I do not want to do IDP now or ever.
Option 2.
1. We waive all team defenses, you get all that cap money back. So if you did spend big on D’s you at least get a lot back to spend on blind bids. Not in addition to the $200 below
2. We all get $200 to spend on IDP in an auction held on this board starting ASAP until finished. You don’t have to spend it all but you would need to acquire a given minimum number of IDP during the auction. The remaining money of the $200 would eventually be folded into your total cap.
3. We will start: 8 total
1 DE and 1 DT
2 LB
2 DB
and 2 Flex spots DE/DT/LB/DB (Your choice)
Scoring will be:
Tackles: 1-3(1pt) 4-6 (2pt) 7-9 (3 pt) 10-12 (4 pts) 13+ (6pts)
Sack: 3
Int: 4
Fumble Rec. 4
Forced Fum. 2
TD’s: 6 with the same escalator for offensive players and distance
(I am wiiling to add some categories here if I forgot them, like blocked kicks or things like that, so long as MFL has it as an option)(I'm willing to adjust scoring a little as well, it's a minor issue)
Option 3.
Same as option 2 however we would retain Team D for the categories we have in place already such as total yards, rushing and passing yards, and points against. Perhaps adding any other stats that are based on the TEAMS performance like those listed above. Assuming MFL tracks those stats. (Failed fourth downs would be an example MFL offers) A test of a strong team D.
Some minor additions may be made to these options without affecting the overall spirit of the given option.
