We need to make the minimum franchise bump at LEAST $2 probably $5. (For 2011)

I'd like to see a minimum penalty for cutting players
Even if it is only a 10% hit, there should be something that hits you for cutting a massive contract.

A problem is when a player is waived by an owner their contract resets to the minimum. So I wouldn't know what to charge them.
If all off season cuts were done through me I could do the math then cut them for each owner. Maybe some formula 10% for each year remaining or a flat fee.
Or just 10% period.
and when does it clear? The following march 1st? I'd hate to have to book keep 10% for the next 4 years or whatever. It could be done though. I could make a note in the salary adjust section, "this clears 3-1-2013" etc...
I like the idea alot that you suffer for cutting a guy with a big contract 3 or 4 years early.
the other part of that, when a player is waived in season they count 50% until march 1. Would that carry on for the length of their contract? You'd be really hamstrung very quickly. I could see nearly no movement in the off season.
A challenge to be sure.

what if we always charged 10% of a salary for waiving, in season and the offseason, a player BUT it stayed with you until the contract expired?

I don't know. I like the idea of teams being penalized for cutting a player early, but that seems like it would be really hard to keep track of four or five years down the road. If there is an easy way for Steve to keep track of it then great, but if not, I think the penalty should just be for one year. There are also other issues like does their cap hit bump up 10% each year like it would have if they were on the team, or do new owners taking over a team get hamstrung by the previous owner who over bid on people? Handsome Lando's Mustache would be screwed if we didn't let him cut Steven Jackson for free, so I wouldn't want to penalize him too much for something he didn't do.

Well if we stay with MFL it would be quite easy. In fact easier to make the penalty for dropping players with active contract consistent throughout the year. It costs 50% in season and 0% off season so I have to adjust the settings twice a year. Ehhh no big deal til I forget and a player is dropped, his contract resets to $2 and I can't recall what they made to charge a team. I really like to ease of, you have a guy with $100 and 4 years on his contract, you cut him ANY TIME but would have a cap hit of $10 for 4 years. It would not escalate 10% each year, that would be a pain. There is a section where you put salary cap hits and a space for notes. "This 10% clears 3-1-2012." Where I am flexible is, keep it at 10% or because we did away with 50% in season make it 20%. Also when does it start and which players are immune until then? Bottom line you shouldn't be able to just cut a Tomlinson making $185/3 with no penalty. Once we figure out the bugs, we could offer owners the chance to pay it in one year. Take the $40 cap hit this year instead of $10 for four years. Whatever you guys like.
