All extensions can be seen at MFL. They are noted on roster page with "EXT 2016"

No where in the following Rule does it state you have to set a year of terms. I thought we didn't have to assign contract year until the player was bid on. 3.4 April 1st - 7th: Franchise Tags a. Vested veterans on RADL rosters with an expired contract may be franchised now. b. Teams are limited to 2 franchise players per year. c. Owners may choose from 3 franchise tags. Tier 1, 2, and 3. Up to 3 per season, one each. d. Owners simply announce to the commissioner they wish to franchise a player or players and which tier they’re applying. The league confirms the player is eligible and applies and announces the tag. e. Available franchise tags: Franchise Tiers

Tier 1 is only for one year. Tier 2 term is dependent on if a players is bid on (with a term from 3-6 years being an option). So tier 2 is somewhat bid dependent. For tier 3 the term is up to the GM and since no other GM can bid on that player, you can assign a term as soon as you apply a tier 3 tag.
So I'm guessing the 2 year term currently on tier 2 franchised players is a placeholder? Am I right Steve?
But Nate, you did a tier 1, which has to be 1 year, and a tier 3, which needs you to apply a term. Although technically it doesn't say when you have to assign a tier 3 term, I would say when you bid makes sense.

You'll notice, on most viewing platforms, section 3.4e is actually a link to "Franchise Tiers"
Dr. Wizard is correct, tier 1 MUST be 1 year.
Tier 2 players are likely labeled with 2 years as a placeholder. Exactly PHD. Dr. Warlock!!!
You'll also notice tier 3 must be assigned 4-6 years.
RN. Petey Krame Krames for the hat trick...It does not give a time table but past precedent dictates at the time of bid.
Litigious lawyerly types might argue differently and no term need be given. The bidding on franchise players section states bids much match term at least and be minimum 10% raise.
Also we recently voted term must be assigned with-in 48 hours for newly acquired players. New contract equals new player.

Yeah I think I speak for everyone including the good Dr. When I say that no one thought that new contract meant new player.
The only team to assign contract terms was PM. I just want to make sure wee all on the same page going forward.
